I decided to compile all the links to free Apple Loops in a single post for convenience. Be sure to read the licenses for these loops, as they tell you what you're allowed to do with them. Also, if you found/made some nice free loops be sure to send me an email and I'll include them here. Anyway, go check out the free loops:
The good folks of iZotope, who make the fabulous iDrum plugin, have put out a free expansion for their XRB iDrum drumkit and loops collection. The good news is that XRB Free does not only feature 16 drumkits, but also 74 beats that are also rendered as Apple Loops. So you don't even need iDrum (it is a very nice drum machine thoug, you might want to pick it up). Nice!
"Perimeter Sound Arts,
a newcomer to the Apple Loops market, and iCompositions are offering
the largest free Apple Loops package in history, containing 264 Apple
Loops!" You can find the loops here, but as always you will have to have an account for the iCompositions website to grab the loops.
MacJams has been giving away free loops for five weeks. In total that's 120 mb of free loops! Get the loops from weeks 1-4 here, and week 5 here. Please be aware of the license for using these loops.
Glaresoft's "resident mad breakbeat scientist, bit shift" put together a collection of free electro/breakbeat drum and synth loops from his forthcoming Apple Loops CD 'bitshift's bangin' beats'". You'll need to give them your Email adress, but they promise they won't spam you. It's worth it because the loops are breakalicious.
Directions in Music has a very nice pack of drum and percussion loops played by Michael Blair (ex-Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Ryan Adams) and produce by Chris Bell. These are great for band/singer-songwriter oriented kind of stuff.
GarageBand is not just for music anymore, or so it seems... Apple has put up a nice article on recording podcasts with GarageBand, coinciding withe the release of iTunes 4.9. Hmmm... A podcast that showcases tracks made with GarageBand seems like a good idea, don't ya think?
